A Hero's Legacy Lives On: Dedicating the Bastrop Post Office in Honor of Sergeant Major Billy D. Waug

McCaul: Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. –  This week, I was blessed with the opportunity to spend time in my district, meet with constituents, and participate in events honoring members of our community who will have lasting impacts for generations to come.

I had the honor of hosting a ceremony to dedicate the Bastrop Post Office as the "Sergeant Major Billy D. Waugh Post Office," in conjunction with Sergeant Waugh's family and the U.S. Postal Service. As a member of the Greatest Generation, Sergeant Major Billy D. Waugh epitomized the American values of courage, patriotism, and self-sacrifice.

Throughout his life, he served as an Army paratrooper and special forces soldier, a CIA officer, and — for a while — a U.S. postal worker. His courageous service earned eight purple hearts. Sergeant Waugh's incredibly legacy of service, duty, and an enduring love of freedom will live on now in his hometown of Bastrop, Texas, as we remember his life and rename our post office in his honor. It will stand for generations as a testament to a life well lived and an opportunity for all Texans to pay homage to this great American hero.

After the ceremony, I spoke with KXAN about Sergeant Waugh's impact and legacy. Click here to watch the full coverage.

Honoring Aggieland's Greatest Chancellor
While in College Station, my wife Linda and I also had the honor of attending a retirement ceremony for one of my dearest friends, Texas A&M Chancellor John Sharp. A man of extraordinary vision, no one has done more to transform, expand, and elevate the A&M System than Chancellor Sharp.

When I started representing Texas A&M, he and I immediately hit it off. We forged not only a strong partnership between A&M and Congress, but also a powerful friendship. Together, we worked on bringing the space force to A&M, establishing a high-tech semiconductor institute, integrating the Army Futures Command into the area, and so much more.

While he will be greatly missed on campus, his visionary leadership has ensured A&M will lead the nation in both academics and national security for decades to come.

Visiting the Ballistics, Aero-Optics, and Materials Range at Texas A&M
This week, I had the opportunity to see the completed Phase 1 of Texas A&M's new Ballistics, Aero-Optics, and Materials (BAM) Range on RELLIS campus, which will enable the U.S. to put weapons and capabilities in the hands of our warfighters faster and at a lower cost, ensuring we can compete — and win — against our adversaries.

Over the past few years, I've fought to secure funding from Congress and develop this facility because I believe it will play a crucial role in outperforming our adversaries’ military capabilities. I look forward to seeing the historic BAM range bolster America’s military might and strengthen our national security for years to come.

Israel’s strikes: A major setback for Iran’s nuclear ambitions
As chairman emeritus of the Foreign Affairs Committee, I’ve been keeping a very close eye on Israel’s preemptive strikes on Iran. Just a couple of weeks ago, I visited Israel and asked Prime Minister Netanyahu about Iran. He was very clear in our meeting: If Iran did not agree to dismantle its nuclear program — if diplomacy did not work — Israel would strike. During our meeting, I urged him to coordinate with the U.S. on the response to Iran’s retaliation, if strikes occurred. The safety of our citizens and our troops in the region must be top priority.

President Trump gave Iran every chance to negotiate in good faith and to avoid this catastrophe. Unfortunately, the regime chose not to take the path of peace, and they are now facing the repercussions. Israel’s strikes were a major setback for Iran’s nuclear ambitions. The regime would be wise to come to the table and make an agreement with President Trump while the offer still stands. If they instead choose to harm U.S. troops in the region, they will once again regret their decision.

Meeting with Community Leaders: Visiting the Bryan College Station Chamber of Commerce
While in Aggieland, I had the chance to meet with members from the Bryan College Station Chamber of Commerce — including Mayor Nichols, Mayor Gutierrez, and Chamber President Glen Brewer. We chatted about the latest in Washington, including the One Big Beautiful Bill and so much more. It's always a privilege to share about my work in Congress and to hear directly from community leaders about the pressing issues impacting Texas' 10th district
