CONG. McCAUL: A Historic, Bi-Partisan Trip to Taiwan in the Face of Chinese Escalation

"My colleagues & I refuse to back down in the face of these scare tactics. Instead we're proudly standing with Taiwan in defense of Freedom & Democracy."

from Cong. Michael McCaul

Texas Insider Report WASHINGTON, D.C. As we face the generational threat of the Chinese Communist Party, the United States must strengthen relationships with our allies and partners in the Indo-Pacific. That's why I'm currently leading a bipartisan Congressional trip to the region. So far, we have:

  • Met with Japan's Prime Minister Kishida, South Korea's President Yoon and Foreign Minister Park Jin, Taiwan's Vice President Lai, and many others
  • Held a working dinner with members of Japan's legislature
  • Toured Samsung, a leader in the semiconductor industry with big plans to expand operations in Texas
  • Visited the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) and been briefed on its importance
  • Made a historic visit to Taiwan
Throughout our visit to Taiwan, the Chinese Communist Party has escalated its aggression in the Taiwan strait and sent our delegation intimidating messages. But my colleagues and I refuse to back down in the face of these scare tactics. Instead, we are proudly standing with Taiwan in defense of freedom and democracy around the world.

Insulting Comments from the Administration

Just in the past week, the Biden administration finally announced they will share the Afghanistan withdrawal after-action report, a document I have requested for months. But instead of owning up to their mistakes, the administration released a summary of this report right before Easter weekend, hoping it would fly under the radar, and they fully avoided responsibility.

John Kirby, a spokesperson for the administration, even claimed he “just didn’t see” any chaos during the Afghanistan withdrawal, that “a lot of Afghans are living better lives now,” and that the administration is proud of what they did.

These comments are disgraceful and insulting – insulting to our veterans who served so bravely; to the Afghan women fighting for their educations and even their lives; to the U.S. citizens and allies left behind under Taliban rule; and to every American who watched videos of the withdrawal with their own two eyes.
Putting a Stop to Child Abuse

As a father of five, I know nothing in this world is more important than our children's wellbeing and safety. That's why I introduced the bipartisan Jenna Quinn Law this week along with Rep. Susan Wild (D-Penn.) and Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas). This legislation will allow current grant funds to be used to train and educate students, teachers, caregivers, and other adults who work with children on how to prevent, recognize, and report child sexual abuse.

After a version of Jenna's Law passed in Texas, we saw educators increase reports of child abuse across the state.

It is long past time we implemented the same strategy nation-wide to help put a stop to this unspeakable evil.
