Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – Senator Brandon Creighton (R-Conroe) and Representative Richard Raymond (D-Laredo) have filed legislation creating a Statewide Disaster Alert System. Last month’s severe freeze and prolonged blackouts left Texans in the dark — literally and figuratively. The lack of communication ahead of the storm contributed to Texans’ many challenges, and this system will provide a much needed warning ahead of impending disasters and extreme weather.
“Communications failures contributed to widespread confusion about severe weather and prolonged blackouts throughout the state, and this needs to be addressed as quickly as possible,” said Senator Creighton.
“Amber, Silver and Blue Alerts have saved lives across Texas, and this is a common-sense approach to ensure Texans have the information they need to prepare for severe weather and disasters. I am happy to work with Chairman Raymond on this priority legislation.”

Senator Creighton represents Montgomery, Harris, Chambers, Galveston and Jefferson counties, and serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Higher Education and Select Committee on Ports.
Representative Raymond represents Webb County and serves as Chairman of the Defense & Veterans Affairs Committee and on the State Affairs Committee.
The bill is filed as HB 12 in the House, and SB 865 in the Senate.
