Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas On September 30th Representative Roberto Alonzo had the pleasure of celebrating American Indian Heritage Day at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie. This years event marked the 5th Annual statewide celebration of the passing of House Bill (H.B.) 174. Representative Alonzo authored H.B. 174 declaring the last Friday in September is observed as American Indian Heritage Day" in the State of Texas.
Representative Alonzos bill makes clear the importance of the historic cultural and social contributions American Indian communities and leaders have made to the state. With the passing of this bill in to law the state not only recognizes these contributions but supports honoring the American Indian communities yearly. American Indians have a unique opportunity and responsibility to celebrate the rich traditional and contemporary Indian culture while keeping American Indian issues in the forefront of conversations in todays society.
During the event Representative Alonzo displayed his continued support by presenting a signed version of House Bill 174 and briefly talking about the importance of this day for Indian culture. The day featured a range of activities with dancing drumming performances and interactive experiences for all.
Rep. Alonzo Endorses National Night Out
Representative Roberto Alonzo is proud to be attending numerous National Night Out events around the great district of District 104. He believes that enhancing the relationship between our neighbors and the brave people who are sworn to protect us will bring back a true sense of community. National Night Out in Texas is a community
police awareness-raising event held the first Tuesday of each October. Representative Alonzo recognizes and supports the contributions that this annual event does to promote police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie in making our neighborhoods safer. National Night Out is designed to:
- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
- Generate support and participation in crime efforts
- Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community relations
- Let criminals know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back
Representative Alonzo wants to encourage everyone to be one of the hundreds of neighbors that take part in National Night Out across communities within District 104 but also throughout the state. Go out and enjoy your neighborhood meet those who are prepared to serve you participate in the festivals parades cookouts and various other community events taking place today.
