Sarah Beckstrom, 20, and Andrew Wolfe, 24, were ambushed while serving our nation, standing watch to protect our capital. Tragically, Sarah lost her life in this horrific act of violence, and Andrew remains in critical condition, fighting for his life. These are young patriots who volunteered to serve and protect the American people.
The gunman, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, a 29-year-old Afghan national, was admitted to the United States under the resettlement program administered during the Biden Administration. This attack underscores the dangers of unfettered access and years of reckless immigration policies. Decisions made over the last four years allowed someone with deadly intent to be in our country and on the streets of our nation’s capital, putting our service members and citizens at grave risk. This tragedy is not only a heartbreaking loss of life but also a stark reminder of the real-world consequences of policy failures that compromise national security.
We mourn Sarah’s passing, remembering her courage, her commitment, and her sacrifice. Her life, cut far too short, reminds us of the bravery and dedication of every man and woman who serves in uniform.
