Babin: Backing the Blue During National Police Week

Celebrating America 250 with Prayer and Thanksgiving

Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. –  National Police Week is a time to honor the brave men and women who put on the badge every day knowing the dangers that come with the job. Across Texas and throughout our nation, law enforcement officers run toward danger so American families can live in safety and peace.

Last week, we also remembered the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their courage and service will never be forgotten, and we continue to lift up their families and loved ones in prayer.

House Republicans proudly passed a resolution expressing support for law enforcement officers and recognizing the sacrifices they make to protect our communities. At a time when too many on the Left have spent years attacking and undermining law enforcement, Republicans are making it clear that we Back the Blue.

To every officer serving our communities, thank you for your courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to keeping the American people safe.

Celebrating America 250 with Prayer and Thanksgiving
Last week, I spoke on the House floor in recognition of “Rededicate 250: A National Jubilee of Prayer, Praise & Thanksgiving” taking place on the National Mall today as our nation prepares to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary.

In 1776, during one of the most difficult moments in our nation’s history, the Continental Congress called on Americans to humble themselves before Almighty God through prayer and thanksgiving. Our Founders understood something that remains true today: America’s strength has never come from government alone. It has come from faith, morality, and a people willing to seek God’s guidance.

As we celebrate 250 years of freedom, we must remember the principles that sustained this nation through war, hardship, and sacrifice. From our national motto, “In God We Trust,” to the oath of office taken with a hand on the Bible, faith has always been woven into the fabric of America.

May we continue striving to remain one nation under God for generations to come.

 FY27 Appropriations Update
The House passed the FY2027 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act with overwhelming bipartisan support. This legislation delivers critical investments for our service members, veterans, military families, and national security.

The bill funds veterans’ health care, benefits, mental health services, and essential VA programs that support those who have served our nation. It also strengthens military readiness by investing in military construction projects, housing, childcare, and infrastructure that improve the quality of life for service members and their families.

Additionally, the legislation provides more than $2 billion for VA medical facility capital improvements while preserving our national military cemeteries and memorials to honor the heroes who defended our freedoms.

Supporting our military and veterans is not optional. It is a responsibility. House Republicans will continue working to ensure every appropriations bill reflects that commitment to the men and women who keep America safe.

This Week in American History:
This week in 1804, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark began their historic expedition across the American frontier after departing near St. Louis. Commissioned by President Thomas Jefferson following the Louisiana Purchase, the Corps of Discovery set out to explore the vast western territories, map new routes, and strengthen America’s presence from coast to coast.

Their journey became one of the most important expeditions in U.S. history and remains a symbol of the pioneering spirit that helped shape our nation.
