House Republicans passed a resolution condemning socialism and communism and the devastation these dangerous ideologies have caused around the world. 192 Democrats voted against it.
Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last week, I voted to send the Senate-revised Continuing Resolution (CR) to President Donald Trump’s desk, preventing a government shutdown and keeping the federal government funded through December 11, 2026.
The House has done its job. All 12 Fiscal Year 2027 appropriations bills have advanced through the House Appropriations Committee, and the House has already passed several full-year funding measures. I have consistently supported moving these bills through regular order so Congress can responsibly fund the government and provide certainty for the American people.
I have never been a fan of Washington’s habit of governing with short-term CRs. Congress should be passing responsible, full-year appropriations bills on time, not governing from one funding deadline to the next.
But shutting down the government was not the answer. A shutdown would create needless uncertainty for our servicemembers, federal law enforcement, veterans, families, and federal workers across Southeast Texas and the country.
That is why I supported this clean, short-term funding measure: to keep the government open, protect the American people from unnecessary disruption, and give Congress additional time to finish the FY27 appropriations process.
The American people expect Congress to do its job. I will continue working to ensure we do exactly that.
Establishing I-47 in Honor of President TrumpI introduced legislation that would convert U.S. Route 287 to Interstate Route I-47, honoring President Trump and investing in a critical aspect of Texas’ infrastructure. US-287 accounted for 25% of Texas’ GDP in 2021, supporting energy production, maritime, agriculture, cattle, and timber industries. Designating US-287 as I-47 and a High-Priority Corridor will help strengthen safety standards, improve regional connectivity, spur infrastructure investment, and support continued economic growth not only in Texas but also across the western United States.Texas is growing, and our infrastructure must grow with it. US-287 runs from Port Arthur, Texas, to Choteau, Montana. I’m honored to represent the starting point of this critical corridor and look forward to the ways it will enrich the lives of thousands of Americans who live along the route and all who will benefit from the economic growth that US-287 brings.
The Radical Left is Showing Its True Colors
Last week, House Democrats had two opportunities to stand for basic American principles, and overwhelmingly chose the opposite.
House Republicans passed a resolution condemning socialism and communism and the devastation these dangerous ideologies have caused around the world. 192 Democrats voted against it.
We also advanced a constitutional amendment to preserve the Supreme Court at nine justices and protect it from partisan court-packing schemes. 205 Democrats voted against it.
Think about that. Condemning socialism and communism and protecting the integrity of the Supreme Court should not be controversial. Yet today's radical Left continues to show just how far it has strayed from the values and institutions that have made America exceptional.
The American people deserve to know exactly where their representatives stand, and these votes speak for themselves.
Honored to Defend the American Family
Last week, I was honored to join the Faith and Freedom Coalition and receive their Friend of the Family Award. As the father of five and the grandfather of 17, I have always voted for values that strengthen and equip families. It’s my prayer that our nation’s next generation grows up in a nation where hard work is always rewarded, the American dream is always possible, and the Judeo-Christian values that our nation was founded upon prevail.
