"Just for scale, this rivals the footprint of Washington, D.C."
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Texas Insider Report) — “This appears to be a symptom of our nation’s failure to secure our borders. My Texas colleagues and I are incredibly concerned with the reports we’re seeing about Colony Ridge, and we believe the state should thoroughly investigate this issue as we continue to seek legislative solutions in Congress to address illegal immigration and prevent future situations like Colony Ridge,” said Texas Cong. Brian Babin (right,) the Co-Chair of the House Border Security Caucus.
Because the Colony Ridge community development is located within Congressman Babin's 36th Congressional District – situated to the north and east of downtown Houston and within the boundaries of Liberty County, Texas – he led Texas' Republican Delegation in the U.S. House of Representatives to write a letter to Governor Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton that addressed some of the concerns raised in recent media reports about the growing issue.
Currently, Colony Ridge spans 10s-of-1,000s of acres that are under development.
"Just for scale, this rivals the footprint of Washington, D.C., with a population estimated to have already eclipsed 50,000 and a growth rate that is occurring at an alarming pace," said Cong. Babin in a recent op-ed published by the The Daily Wire.
"At the current pace, Colony Ridge could have 150,000 residents by the decade’s end.
"In 2019 I received a briefing from the Cleveland Independent School District – a school system near Colony Ridge – and during this meeting I learned that Cleveland ISD is among the fastest-growing school districts in the state, increasing by 312% since 2011."

“The crisis at our southern border continues to engulf the state of Texas,” said Cong. August Pfluger (TX-11, below right,) who co-signed the letter.
“This so-called ‘Colony Ridge’ development is enabling dangerous cartels to shop in our backyard without criminal background checks or proof of legal residency in our country. I am proud to stand with Rep. Babin and the entire Texas Delegation in opposition to this development while protecting our local communities.”
“With reports of escalating violent crime across the state and county, and a surge in high-profile murders, its clear that urgent action is needed. The recent record-breaking drug busts in Liberty County – and ongoing drug cartel activity – underscore the pressing need for a serious inquiry,” said DFW-Area Cong. Michael Burgess (TX-26).
“The safety and well-being of our community and state are paramount, and it is time for state and local law enforcement officials to step up and address these critical issues head-on.
"I stand with my fellow members from Texas to demand a thorough investigation. In the wake of Colony Ridge’s troubling developments, Texans deserve answers,” Burgess said.

“Texans need answers on why this lawlessness is being allowed in our state that we are concurrently defending from illegal invasion at the southern border.”
"Let this serve as my warning to the rest of the nation," said Congressman Babin.
"If Colony Ridge can happen in Texas, it can happen in any state."
