Babin: Protecting the Texas Coast

Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Upper Texas Coast is one of our nation’s greatest treasures. It is home to world-class fishing, abundant wildlife, beautiful beaches, and thriving coastal communities. That’s why I am proud to be an original cosponsor of the Lone Star Coastal National Recreation Area Act.

This locally driven, partnership-based legislation will expand outdoor recreation, support conservation and coastal resilience, and promote tourism and economic growth, all while protecting private property rights and ensuring participation remains completely voluntary.

For generations to come, Texans and visitors alike should be able to enjoy everything our coast has to offer. This bill helps preserve that legacy while keeping local communities firmly in the driver's seat

Chambers County Annual Hurricane Workshop
As hurricane season begins, I was proud to join local leaders, first responders, and emergency management professionals at the Chambers County Annual Hurricane Workshop to discuss the importance of preparation and resilience across Southeast Texas.

Year after year, our region faces some of the most challenging weather conditions in the country. Thankfully, we are served by dedicated law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency personnel, and elected officials who go above and beyond to ensure Southeast Texans are prepared long before a storm makes landfall. Their planning, coordination, and commitment to public safety save lives.

As Chairman of the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee, I am working to strengthen the tools communities rely on during emergencies, including modernizing NOAA Weather Radio so families can receive critical alerts even when other communications fail.

Preparedness is a shared responsibility, and thanks to the hardworking men and women serving our communities, Southeast Texas stands ready for whatever this hurricane season may bring.

This Week in American History
On June 14, 1775, the Continental Congress established the Continental Army, creating the first unified military force to defend the American colonies as they fought for independence. Just one day later, George Washington was appointed Commander-in-Chief, setting the stage for a victory that would change the course of history.

What began as a small force of citizen-soldiers became the foundation of the greatest fighting force the world has ever known. For more than 250 years, generations of Americans have answered the call to serve, defending our freedoms and preserving the ideals upon which our nation was founded.

Having served in the United States Army myself, I know firsthand the sacrifice, discipline, and courage required to wear our nation's uniform. The legacy of the Continental Army lives on today in every soldier who stands watch, every family who supports them, and every American who cherishes the freedoms they protect.

As we remember the creation of the Continental Army this week, we honor not only those who fought for our independence, but all who have served since. Their willingness to stand in defense of freedom has safeguarded our nation for more than two centuries, and their example reminds us that liberty is never guaranteed; it must be protected by each generation. This We'll Defend.
