Biden Border Official says More Funding Needed to Process Immigrants into U.S. – as Record Numbers Flood Southern Border

Biden official says more funding needed from Congress to process more people into U.S.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Texas Insider Report) — Citing a record number of illegal immigrants entering into the United States during December – as well as a record number fentanyl seizures and “countless children and adults” being trafficked into the U.S. – as some of the latest travesties imparted on local communities by violent criminals making Americans “more vulnerable to a terrorist attacks” since President Biden took office, House Speaker Mike Johnson earliet today declared that Border Security will be a top 2024 priority for Republicans as a Congressional Delegation conducted a prioritized trip to the South Texas border city of Eagle Pass, Texas Wednesday.

“The southern border of our nation is being overrun, and U.S. Customs & Border Protection is at a breaking point. This catastrophe requires the Biden White House’s full attention and commitment,”said Johnson, calling on President Biden to secure a border over-run with illegal immigrants while blaming Biden for the crisis.

The Congressional Delegation will be briefed by Law Enforcement and Local Officials about the escalating conditions in order to hear the real life concerns raised by residents impacted and living along the Texas-Mexico Border.

Johnson also supported and reiterated recent statements made by Democrat Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs and Texas' Republican Gov. Greg Abbott (ans well as other major city Democrat mayors,) that the Biden Border Crisis “is the direct result of your administration’s policies.”

Speaker Johnson said Mr. Biden has “clearly undermined America’s sovereignty and security by ending the Remain in Mexico Policy, while reinstating the "Catch & Release, suspending asylum cooperative agreements with other nations, ignoring existing restraints on the abuse of parole, and halting border wall construction.”

The solution, Johnson said, includes implementing “statutory reforms designed to restore operational control at our southern border” – which “must start now, and it must start with you.”
Urging Biden to “immediately take executive action to stem the record tide of illegal immigration,” Johnson called on Biden to end the Obama-era Catch & Release policy he reinstated after the Trump Administration abolished the policy – saying it was time to detain all illegal immigrants apprehended along the border in order to discourage similar future behavior.

Still, Mr. Biden continues to argue – in the face of recently released figures showing a record number of illegal immigrant were encountered or apprehended by border officals during December – that his actions provide "an orderly process" to allow more people to enter the U.S.

House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green (R-TN.) meanwhile, has scheduled Congressional hearings this later month to address the border crisis.

After nearly a year-long investigation into "the causes, costs, and consequences of the crisis at the Southwest Border – and how the reckless decision-making and legally dubious policies of the president have precipitated the worst border crisis in American history," the committee and Speaker Johnson called on Mr. Biden to “stop exploiting” the parole system.

The Biden Administration has created more parole programs than previous administrations – and has said it doesn’t plan to stop them.

While Johnson urged Mr. Biden “to regain operational control of the border,” U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas recently argued that operational control actually exists – and when announcing record high illegal border crossing data, CBP Acting Commissioner Troy Miller said more funding is needed from Congress to process more people into the U.S.

Border Patrol chiefs, on the other hand, recently complained that “illegal aliens are spreading the word that the border is open;” and that agents are being reassigned to process and release “illegal aliens rather than patrolling the border” – which has increased security risks.

Mr. Jonhson also called on President Biden to “immediately renew construction of the border wall.”

The border trip to Eagle Pass by Speaker Johnson and some 60 members of Congress comes as a record number of "Known & Suspected Terrorists" (KSTs) have been apprehended by Customs & Border Patrol Agents – including an Iranian national with terrorist ties who was arrested December 21st near Niagara Falls, New York.

In the first three months of Fiscal Year 2024, a total of 80 KSTs have been apprehended, with the majority, 46, at the northern border.

At the current pace, such apprehensions will exceed 2023's apprehensions number of 736. The majority of them – 487, or 66%, – were apprehended at the northern border.
