Biden Taps AOC to Lead 'Climate Change' Team as Part of Biden-Sanders 'Unity Task Forces' Initiative

"I commend Joe Biden for working with my campaign to unify our party in a transformational & progressive direction," Sanders said.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Texas Insider Report) — “From health care, to reforming our justice system, to rebuilding a more inclusive and fair economy, the work of the Task Forces will be essential to identifying ways to build on our progress and not simply turn the clock back to a time before Donald Trump, but transform our country," said presumptive Democrat nominee Joe Biden, announcing that liberal firebrand Cong. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was joining one of the Biden-Bernie Sanders Policy Task Forces designed to persuade Democrats of all stipes to unify prior to taking on President Trump in the fall.

Said an Ocasio-Cortez spokeswoman:
"She believes the movement will only be successful if we continue to apply pressure, both inside and outside the system.

"This is just one element of the broader fight for just policies."

Sen. Sanders and Cong. Ocasio-Cortez both identify as Democrat-Socialists, and have vowed to push Biden even further to the left after it became clear Sanders would not be the Democrat standard-bearer to challenge President Donald Trump.

Ocasio-Cortez, the New York Democrat know nationally for her partnership in "The Squad" and for authoring legislation known as "The Green New Deal," was a vocal supporter of Sanders and will now serve as co-chairwoman of a "Climate Change Task Force" with former Secretary of State and Massachusetts Senator John Kerry.

Biden had previously promised to collaborate with the self-proclaimed "Socialist-Democrat" Sanders in an effort to avoid the intra-party fractures experienced in 2016, when the Vermont senator was slow to back Hillary Clinton, which many Democrats still blame for her defeat to now-President Donald Trump.
"I commend Joe Biden for working together with my campaign to assemble a group of leading thinkers and activists who can and will unify our party in a transformational and progressive direction," Sanders said.
In adopting positions of both Sanders and former rival Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Biden is also allowing Sanders to hold onto the delegates which he would have traditionally forfeited when suspending his White House campaign in order that he can assert influence on the Democrat's Platform and future agenda.

The Biden campaign said it is reaching out for Sanders' and Cong. Ocasio-Cortez's support in an attempt to garner more enthusiasm among younger, more liberal Democrats for the 77-year Biden

Younger Democrats represent a voting bloc that Biden's struggled to connect with, but are anticipated to play a potentially crucial role in the 2020 Election.

Other Biden-Sanders Campaign "Task Forces" will also look at the issues of:
  • Criminal Justice Reform
  • The Economy
  • Education
  • Healthcare and "Medicare for All", and
  • Immigration
The groups have said they will meet regularly ahead of the mid-August 2020 Democrat National Convention in Milwaukee, where they will present their findings and proposals as convention delegates debate the platform with which they will contest November's elections.
