Students receive up to $4000 for the 2018-2019 Academic Year

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Nominations for
the 2018-2019 Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program (TASSP) have opened for next years class for the Fall 2018-Spring 2019 Academic Year. This scholarship supports students who choose to participate in a college ROTC program and commit to serve in our armed forces.
I have had the honor and privilege of nominating several students for this scholarship in previous funding cycles and witnessed them grow into outstanding leaders who embody the values of dedication service and sacrifice for their country and their fellow Americans.
A student must meet the eligibility criteria listed below in order to receive an initial award. He or she must also enter into an agreement requiring a four year commitment as a member of
the Texas Army National Guard the
Texas Air National Guard the
Texas State Guard the U.S. Coast Guard U.S. Merchant Marine or a commissioned officer in any branch of the armed services of the United States.

Annually the Governor and the Lieutenant Governor may each appoint two students and each State Senator and each State Representative may appoint one student to receive a conditional TASSP scholarship.
A maximum of 185 students may be appointed each year.
A student may receive up to $4000 for the 2018-2019 academic year and dependent on funding available students may receive up to four years of awards.
In order to be considered for a TASSP a student enrolling in higher education straight from high school
must meet two of the following four academic criteria at the time of application:
- Be on track to graduate or have graduated high school with the Distinguished Achievement Program (DAP) or the International Baccalaureate Program (IB);
• Have a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale;
• Achieve a college readiness score on the SAT (1070) or ACT (23);
- Be ranked in the top one-third of the prospective high school graduating class.
Students must be enrolled in a college or university in the fall 2018/spring 2019 academic year in order to be nominated for a TASSP during the current nomination cycle.
I am proud that the State of Texas allows me the opportunity to give back to students who plan to serve our nation in the military. I look forward to nominating a student in my district so that they will obtain a quality education that will prepare them for a bright future in our armed services.
