Border Patrol Agents Seize 2700 Pounds of Marijuana in Rio Grande Valley

Agents continue to disrupt illicit South Texas activity

Texas Insider Report: EDINBURG Texas Early last Monday morning U.S. Border Patrol agents working near Escobares Texas witnessed several subjects who had just crossed the Rio Grande River carrying bundles of narcotics. As agents encountered the group the smugglers dropped the bundles and fled back to Mexico.

Agents seized 9 bundles of marijuana with a combined weight of nearly 380 pounds worth an estimated $303000.

Additionally over the weekend Border Patrol agents stopped eight separate narcotic smuggling attempts resulting in the seizure of over 650 pounds of marijuana with an estimated value of $521000.

During the previous Sunday evening McAllen Border Patrol agents working near Havana Texas responded to a report of several subjects carrying bundles of narcotics along the Mexican riverbank.

Agents watched the smugglers as they crossed illegally into the United States and shortly after the smugglers made landfall on the U.S. riverbank agents moved in to intercept the group. As agents made contact with the group the smugglers abandoned the marijuana and fled to Mexico.

Agents seized over 230 pounds of marijuana worth over $186000.

Over the previious three days Rio Grande Valley Sector agents disrupted a total of nine narcotic smuggling attempts resulting in the seizure of 1500 pounds of marijuana.

The U.S. Border Patrol is investigating each case accordingly and agents continue to disrupt illicit activity throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

U.S. Customs & Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management control and protection of our nations borders at and between official ports of entry.

CBP is charged with securing the borders of the United States while enforcing hundreds of laws and facilitating lawful trade and travel.

And as yet another caravan of some 2000-odd aliens arrived at the Texas-Mexico Boarder seeking to cross our Southern Border into Texas early last week U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen M. Nielsen commented:

This crisis wont be solved until we have comprehensive border security. Until then DHS will do everything in its power with the assistance of federal and state partners to hold smugglers and traffickers accountable enforce our laws and keep American communities safe."
