Border Patrol Stops Smuggling Attempt of Heroin & Methamphetamine Worth Over $1.2 Million in South Texas



LAREDO, Texas  (Texas Insider Report) — “The drugs that were seized today pose a direct threat to our communities,” said Director Gregory Alvarez, after U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) Field Operation Officers intercepted hard narcotics with an estimated street value of more than $1.2 million in one enforcement action at the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge.

“This was an excellent interception by our CBP officers, and a great example of the layered enforcement implemented by CBP,” Alvarez said.

The seizure occurred Thursday, July 23rd at the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge when a CBP officer referred a 2002 Chevrolet Impala for a secondary examination.

During a canine and non-intrusive imaging inspection by CBP officers, seven packages were discovered containing a total of 16 pounds of alleged heroin. An additional 12 packages were also discovered containing a total of 56 pounds of alleged methamphetamine concealed within the vehicle.

The narcotics combined have an estimated street value of $1,217,738.

CBP officers seized the narcotics, and the case was turned over to U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) Special Agents for further investigation.
