Brady Influences Broadband Infrastructure Funding for Rural Texas Communities

Brady sends letter to Treasury Secretary with recommendations for funding implementation

Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. – "As our nation recovers from the pandemic, its critical that our rural communities and other vulnerable areas do not get left behind,” said Cong. Kevin Brady (TX-8) on Monday, sending a letter to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen addressing the recent funding guidelines for critical broadband infrastructure that will close the digital divide.

“The COVID-19 pandemic amplified the need for broadband to access education, healthcare, and employment in addition to many aspects of daily life," said Brady.

In his letter, Congressman Brady asked Secretary Yellen to consider the following recommendations:
  • Give equal consideration to public-private partnerships and municipally-owned networks when directing funding for broadband infrastructure.
  • Prioritize unserved areas with the greatest need before upgrading existing networks.
  • Coordinate between all relevant agencies to avoid duplicative spending and ensure areas in need are not overlooked.
These recommendations will strengthen transparency and improve coordination of these funds to connect rural communities to high-speed internet, result in sustainable projects, and reduce government waste.
