From Congressman John Culberson Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. Today the House finalized our work on 53 bills to combat the exploding drug addiction and opioid crisis in our local communities. We packaged these bills together and passed them as one bill -  H.R. 6 - Substance Use-Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment (SUPPORT) for Patients and Communities Act. H.R. 6 is a bipartisan bill that will help our overall efforts to combat the opioid epidemic. It will advance treatment and recovery programs improve prevention efforts and bolster our efforts to fight deadly illicit synthetic drugs like fentanyl. Our holistic approach to ending this scourge also makes sure that our law enforcement has better tools to get drugs out of our neighborhoods. The opioid legislation passed this week is historic. You can learn more about what House Republicans are doing to fight the opioid epidemic here. Earlier this week the House also passed the 2018 Farm Bill. This bill is important to Americas hardworking farmers and ranchers and ensures that the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) which offers nutrition assistance to millions of eligible low-income individuals and families continues helping those who need it most. One of the principal reasons I supported this Farm Bill is because it will help people become self-sufficient. With our soaring economy and unemployment at an 18-year low theres never been a better time to get folks off the sidelines and into meaningful work. This bill ensures that the basic needs of Americans food health care and housing are met. It will help adults that are fit to work NOT seniors NOT individuals with disabilities and NOT children regain a sense of pride that comes with the hard work and respect of having a job.
