Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C.Today the House of Representatives finished up their business for the remainder of the year. Prior to adjourning today the House passed with the support of Rep. John R. Carter (R-TX-31) a short-term Continuing Resolution (CR) to continue funding for federal programs and services as well as the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act.
The CR prevents a government shutdown continues the freeze on member pay and ensures vital national security programs remain on time and on schedule. The CR also increases defense funding by $8 billion while maintaining the current budget cap level of $1.07 trillion put into place under the Budget Control Act of 2011. The bill extends funding for operations of most federal agencies programs and services until April 28 2017.
While I would rather work through regular order and pass individual funding bills to fund the government I am pleased to see we have worked out a continuing resolution to avoid a government shutdown that would cut off pay to our soldiers their families and our seniors on social security said Rep. Carter. Todays bill will bring more money into Ft. Hood provide for increased troop strength and readiness provide for our military efforts to fight ISIS maintain the security and protection of our border and support expanded research and treatments for mental health and our fight on opiod abuse. There is still work to be done and my colleagues and I will hit the ground running under the Trump administration early next year to begin moving our country back into the right direction.
