Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – Harmony Public Schools-Central Texas is proud to announce that Jazmin Gonzalez Rodriguez, a 10th grade student at Harmony School of Excellence, has been named a winner in the Young Writers Contest series, Stranger Sagas Creative Writing Contest for students ages 10 to 18.
The national competition challenges students to craft compelling scary stories in just 100 words. Carefully crafted story starters help young writers overcome the blank page and begin writing quickly, while the word limit encourages them to sharpen vocabulary and make intentional plot choices. The genre invites students to experiment with character, viewpoint, tension and structure.
Jazmin’s winning entry, titled “I Don’t Want What You Have I Wanna Be You,” tells the haunting story of a narrator who discovers her own name on a missing persons list. Through vivid imagery and emotional depth, Jazmin explores themes of identity, regret and longing within the tight 100 word limit:
“My name was on the missing persons’ list. The date was from two weeks ago, and just when I tried to contact the entity, they told me that everything is gonna be alright. My mom and my sister, they don't talk to me. It's because they don't see me. I will never get back. It's all my fault. I just wanted to get my life back. I wanted to be like her; she gets everything. I just wanted to get a little of that, and now I'm just a ghost. I'm trapped. I’m just another name on that list. I left my mom without a daughter. I don't have anything left.”
