CONG. SESSIONS: Persistent Mail Delivery Disruptions & Delays 'Are Affecting Americans Nationwide'

“These challenges to our postal system are not only found in Texas, but are affecting Americans nationwide."

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – “Today’s discussion with USPS Officials investigated challenges caused by the 'Delivering for America' plan in the Houston area. Our conversation centered on next steps for meaningful improvement to USPS operations,” said Congressman Pete Sessions Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Government Operations & the Federal Workforce, as he led a bipartisan briefing with Cong. Al Green, Cong. Sylvia Garcia, and officials from the United States Postal Service (USPS) to confront persistent mail delays in the Houston area and the broader East Texas Region.

The discussion aimed to determine the root causes of this disruption, which is severely impacting residential and commercial mail delivery.

This on-the-ground assessment provided an in-depth understanding of the operational challenges and guided discussion between the USPS and Members of Congress.

“These challenges to our postal system are not only found in Texas, but are affecting Americans nationwide.

"I’m thankful to my colleagues who joined me today and their demonstrated commitment to resolving these delays and ensuring reliable postal services for all,” said Chairman Pete Sessions (TX-17.)

The Congressional briefing was preceded by a Staff Tour of the South Houston Local Processing Center in Missouri City, Texas.

“I thank Chairman Sessions for his coming to Houston to look into the issues associated with mail delays,” said Congressman Al Green (TX-9.)

“I’m also thankful to Congresswoman Garcia and for their participation. Issues associated with delays have been exacerbated by the lack of transparency and an unwillingness by USPS to address the public and the press. As a result, Congresswoman Garcia and I are submitting written questions to USPS such that we may make an informed decision as to whether a request should be made for a formal congressional hearing. Our questions may be found online at https://algreen.house.gov.

“Today’s discussion made clear that our frustration is getting results, and we are starting to get answers that are long overdue,” said Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29.) "I thank my colleagues for bringing our staffs together to perform the oversight that our constituents deserve.

"Make no mistake, we will keep coming back until we know USPS can actually deliver for our communities wherever they are at, and do it on time,” Garcia promised.
