Trump winning over Democrats as confidence levels highest since 2007
Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. President Donald Trumps recent surge in popularity isnt all about the Republican base according to a new CNN Poll released Monday. Trumps approval ratings are being buoyed by an increasing optimism about the state of the nation by his handling of key policy issues and by an improvement in the amount of support
among Democrats.
He is benefiting from a sense that the country is on the right track.
The CNN Poll indicates that 57 of Americans say things are going well up 8 since February and
the highest mark since 2007. And according to the CNN Poll:
- 52 of Americans approve of Mr. Trumps handling of the economy
- 43 approve of his Foreign Trade
- 40 like how hes handling Immigration and
- 42 back his conduct of Foreign Policy

And much of that optimism is from an unexpected source Democrats.
The CNN Poll showed that 40 of Democrats say America is doing well after some 25 said so in February.
Even when asking specifically about Mr. Trumps handling of the economy Democrats enthusiasm for Trump didnt dampen.
CNNs Poll revealed that 26 of Democrats approve of Mr. Trumps handling of the economy far higher than the 15 who approved in February.
- The CNN Poll confirms the hypothesis that Americans like what Mr. Trump does while not caring for his public persona.
- 71 of those approving of Mr. Trumps performance said it was because of issues.
- 54 of those who disapproved of him cited personality & leadership qualities over issue positions.

All of Trumps most recent numbers are up significantly over the past year and some broach levels President Trump hasnt seen since the start of his presidency.
The poll was conducted May 2-5 by SSRS among a random national sample of 1015 adults. It has an error margin of 3.6 percentage points.
