Committee Assignments Legislative Update & District Spotlight!

Representative Jeff Leach  HD67

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas As we commence week three of the 86th Legislative Session I wanted to take this opportunity to provide you with a brief update from your Texas Capitol including some legislative highlights that impact our community and state. Today Speaker Dennis Bonnen released committee assignments for members of the Texas House and I was honored to be appointed Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence and named to serve on the House Committee on Pensions Investments & Financial Services and the House Committee on Redistricting.  I am grateful to Speaker Bonnen for entrusting me to represent and advocate for our district and for all Texans through these assignments.

As you know school finance reform & property tax relief two issues that are intricately linked continue to remain the focal point of this legislative session.  As discussions on these matters continue it is important to note that much of these public deliberations will take place as we consider the state budget.  As you know the sole constitutional requirement of the Texas Legislature is to pass a balanced state budget on a biennium basis; every two years.  To that end the Texas House & Texas Senate have each submitted their proposed budgets for the 2020-2021 biennium period within their respective chambers.  From here each chamber will begin deliberating the budget through the committee process - the House Appropriations Committee & the Senate Finance Committee - and in the coming months each chamber will consider the budget from the House & Senate floor.

Looking ahead I want you to know that my door remains open as we continue to deliberate the priorities of the state in the coming days weeks and months ahead. Please be sure to contact our office and let us know how our team may be of service to you.

District Spotlight: Honorary Page for a Day & New District Office Location!

The Texas House has a longtime tradition of fostering an environment for our young Texans to learn the nuts and bolts of state government through meaningful exposure to the legislative process.  Through the Honorary Page for a Day Program" each House member may welcome up to 10 students each legislative session to work in the House Chamber as a Page.  Students between the ages of 8 and 18 may commit to working a half-day in the House chamber and may opt to serve either a morning or afternoon shift.  The House Page program requires students to wear appropriate attire for the House Chamber and works on a first-come first-serve basis. Page slots are limited and tend to fill up fast so we encourage you to submit your request in writing as soon as possible by sending an email to District67.Leach@house.texas.gov.  To learn more please contact the Capitol Office at 512-463-0544.

Our District Office has moved!  Please make a note of our new office location and be sure to come by and see us soon! We are now located at 550 S. Watters Road Suite 280 Allen TX 75013.
