Comptroller Performance Review Team Completes On-Site Evaluation of Prosper ISD

Public Encouraged to Report Suspected Waste, Fraud, Abuse of Taxpayer Funds

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas –Texas Comptroller Don Huffines announced that his performance review team has completed its on-site evaluation of Prosper Independent School District and is now analyzing information gathered during last week’s visit. The team will release a comprehensive review of district operations by the end of the year.

Earlier this month, Huffines selected Prosper, along with Austin, Barbers Hill, and El Paso school districts, for detailed performance reviews to determine whether district spending complies with state law and reaches students, classrooms, and teachers — rather than contributing to administrative growth or non-instructional bureaucracy. Prosper is the first district to get an on-site visit.

Gov. Greg Abbott requested the review so the Legislature can consider the findings before the start of the next legislative session in January 2027.

“Texans must have confidence that their school tax dollars support educational opportunities for students, not layers of bureaucracy in central administrative offices,” Huffines said. “We will document wasteful or inappropriate spending wherever we find it and report our findings to the Legislature and the people of Texas.

“We are reviewing a tremendous amount of data, but we also want to hear from Texans. If you are aware of suspicious activity related to this or any other school district, I encourage you to visit our new online portal to report government waste and fraud, which is available on the agency’s website.”

Huffines emphasized that the review will be conducted “professionally and transparently to protect taxpayers and ensure Texas students can learn in the best schools in America.”
