Texas Insider Report: Washington D.C. (Houston TX) Following the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Developments announcement that Texas would receive $45.2 million in disaster recovery funding Congressman John Culberson (TX-07) released the following statement:
This is great news for Texas communities that are continuing to rebuild after the extreme flood events earlier this year. Over 6700 homes were damaged in Harris County during the Tax Day floods and many of these families are still displaced.
I am committed to working with State and local officials to improve Houstons flood infrastructure. I will continue to advocate that Harris County receive its fair share of this disaster recovery funding so families can rebuild and improvements can be made to flood mitigation projects to protect Houstonians lives and property."
Representative Culberson led a
letter from the Texas delegation to House leadership in early September requesting that disaster recovery funding for Texas be included in the continuing resolution. As a result $500 million in disaster funding was included in the legislation. Texas will receive a portion of this funding and the State will allocate the money to the hardest hit communities.
