WASHINGTON, D.C. (Texas Insider Report) — Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) on Monday announced $1,237,426 in funding from the Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs (OJP) and Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) for the School Violence Prevention Program to school districts across Texas’ 23rd Congressional District.
These grants will help institute safety measures in and around schools, support school violence prevention efforts, provide training to school personnel and students, implement evidence-based threat assessments, and fund research and evaluation on the causes and consequences of school violence.
“As a father of 6, my top priority is to ensure that school is a safe haven for our children,” said Congressman Gonzales.
“Equipping staff, law enforcement, and students with the resources necessary to stop the violence before it happens will make for a safe place to learn. I am proud to have helped secure this critical funding for school safety across the district.”
Grants were awarded to the following school districts:

$442,400: Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District

$100,800: Tornillo Independent School District

$494,304: San Antonio Independent School District

$199,922: Rocksprings Independent School District
In the aftermath of Uvalde, Congressman Gonzales sent letters of support for school districts in Texas’ 23rd Congressional District that applied for these grants.
Earlier this year, he helped secure $1.5 million for Uvalde CISD for the School Emergency Response to Violence (Project SERV) grant.
