SAN ANTONIO, TX - Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) announced $5,998,130 in funding for The University of Texas Health Science Center and Texas A&M University-San Antonio to expand educational opportunities for Hispanic students. Grants will be awarded in the following amounts:
- $2,998,130 for the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio: The University of Texas Health Science Center received a Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (DHSI) Grant in the amount of $599,626 ($2,998,130 total) per year for five years.
- $3,000,000 for Texas A&M University-San Antonio: Texas A&M University-San Antonio received the Promoting Postbaccalaureate Opportunities for Hispanic Americans (PPoHA) Program Grant in the amount of $600,000 per year for five years ($3 million total).
- The PPOHA Program provides grants to expand post-baccalaureate educational opportunities for, and improve the academic attainment of, Hispanic students;
- expand the post-baccalaureate academic offerings;
- as well as enhance the program quality in the institutions of higher education that are educating the majority of Hispanic college students and helping large numbers of Hispanic and low-income students complete postsecondary degrees.
