Reining in the Debt and Restoring Fiscal Responsibility

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – Reining in the Debt and Restorig Fiscal Responsibility. I am glad to be back in West Texas after three jam-packed weeks in Washington. In September, the House of Representatives voted on federalizing elections, cancelling student debt, hamstringing our law enforcement, and more.

Starting our most recent legislative session, I spoke at a House Ways and Means hearing where I criticized President Biden and Democrats’ illogical prioritization of climate change, specifically as it relates to the healthcare industry. The Green New Deal agenda is an extreme position where the solution is far worse than the problem of stewarding our environment and reducing emissions. 

On the House floor, I expressed my concerns when voting against legislation that would expand federal control over policing. This legislation would grow the federal bureaucracy, unnecessarily take over the responsibilities of local governments, and add even more strings to federal funding for the Biden Administration to impose their woke agenda and unrelated progressive policies on the American people.

I also led a special order on the House floor, highlighting the historic opportunity that Republicans have to rein in the debt and restore fiscal responsibility to Washington. For the sake of American prosperity and the future of our children, I pray that Republicans rise to the occasion and have the political courage to one day hand off our country better than we found it.

I recently introduced several pieces of legislation in the House, starting with the Access to Future Cares Act. This bill will empower American families to take preventative healthcare measures into their own hands using their pre-tax dollars.

Alongside Senator Barrasso (R-WY), I introduced the Repealing the Ill-conceived and Problematic (RIP) Book Minimum Tax Act to reverse the punitive new tax which will fall on U.S. manufacturers, energy producers, and job creators amid historic inflation and economic uncertainty.

With economic turbulence, record inflation, and skyrocketing energy costs, Democrats have rolled out a tried-and-failed tax hike that will undermine domestic investment, job creation, and U.S. manufacturing. This complicated and arcane “Made-in-America” tax gives unprecedented power to unelected bureaucrats and special interest carve outs for Green New Deal subsidies, while eliminating ordinary and necessary cost recovery provisions for oil and gas production.

Finally, I introduced the Controlling America’s Perilous Spending (CAPS) Act, which would help curb deficits and control the growth of spending. The CAPS Act is a meaningful step toward getting our fiscal house in order. While larger reforms will be necessary to stave off a debt crisis and preserve critical safety nets, we must reestablish fiscal discipline and slow the growth of spending. This bill will force Congress to focus on priorities like national defense and infrastructure.

The CAPS Act would be a step in the right direction toward restoring Congress' fiscal sanity.
