The House vote in favor of this bill sends a clear message that Republicans are committed to fiscal responsibility and willing to work toward a sustainable future for our nation
Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – I am committed to being a responsible steward of taxpayer dollars and ensuring the financial stability of our nation. This week, I voted in favor of the debt ceiling bill championed by House Republicans and led by Speaker Kevin McCarthy. This bill includes significant spending cuts that align with our commitment to fiscal responsibility and is vital in preventing a debt crisis and maintaining our nation's economic stability.
President Biden has repeatedly called for a clean increase in the debt ceiling without any conditions. We cannot allow him to continue recklessly spending American tax dollars. Congress must address the growing federal deficit by implementing responsible spending reductions.

Combatting the CCP on U.S. Soil
This week I tasked President Biden, through legislation, with shutting down the Chinese Consulate General and Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York. Recently, the human rights organization Safeguard Defenders revealed the existence of illicit Chinese secret police stations in various countries, including right here in the United States.
These illegal police stations function as offshore units of the Chinese Ministry of Public Security (MPS), a federal-level agency. I have been actively working to combat the influence of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its covert operations within our borders. China must understand that we will not tolerate their socialist schemes on American soil.

On Thursday, I introduced the Justice Against Sponsors of Illicit Fentanyl Act. This bill will enable victims of fentanyl and their survivors to bring civil claims against nations, such as China and Mexico, that enable the flood of fentanyl into our country.
In Texas alone, there were over 1,600 fentanyl-related deaths in 2021 and more than 800 deaths by August 2022. Our porous southern border has allowed drug cartels to smuggle vast quantities of fentanyl into the United States.
The Justice Against Sponsors of Illicit Fentanyl Act is just the first step toward sealing off our border from these purveyors of death. I am dedicated to fighting for our children, families, and communities against this lethal enemy. It is not a matter of politics but of life and death.

Rep. Lance Gooden, R-Texas, is introducing a bill that would allow civilians to seek justice from "persons, entities, or countries that knowingly or recklessly contribute" to the trafficking of fentanyl.
The ‘‘Justice Against Sponsors of Illicit Fentanyl Act of 2023’’ would provide victims of the fentanyl crisis "full access to the court system" to pursue civil claims against fentanyl traffickers and enablers, according to the bill text.
