Congressman Tony Gonzales Opposes Changing Pro-Life Policies In FY22 Appropriations Process

"I am committed to ensuring that the innocent lives of the unborn are protected, and that conservatives reject Democrats’ attempts to allow for taxpayer funds to be used on abortions.”

Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. – Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) on Wednesday joined Ranking Member Kay Granger (TX-12) and his colleagues on the House Appropriations Committee in a letter urging Democrats to keep all existing pro-life protections in the Fiscal Year 2022 (FY22) appropriations bills. The letter comes as the Biden Administration prepares the discretionary budget requests for FY22 and the Committee starts the annual appropriations process.

"For more than four decades, across multiple Administrations and Congresses led by both Democrats and Republicans, language has been included in the Labor-Health and Human Services Appropriations bill that restricts federal taxpayer funding for abortion under most circumstances,” states the letter. “These provisions reflect a time-tested balance of strongly held and differing perspectives on abortion in this country. As such, we will strongly oppose any appropriations bill that seeks to weaken pro-life protections or eliminates Hyde policies.”

“I’ll always stand up for pro-life policies in Congress,” said Congressman Gonzales. “As we begin this year’s appropriations process, I am committed to ensuring that the innocent lives of the unborn are protected, and that conservatives reject Democrats’ attempts to allow for taxpayer funds to be used on abortions.”
