Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) cosponsored the
No Veterans Crisis Line Call Should Go Unanswered Act in response to
reports this week that more than one in three veterans calls to the Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Crisis Line are not answered.
Our veterans and military service members put their lives on the line to protect their fellow Americans and we must in turn do everything we can to take care of them once they return home" said Sen. Cornyn. It is our duty to care for all wounds suffered by our men and women in uniform both past and present including those invisible wounds that can lead to preventable tragedies."
The
No Veterans Crisis Line Call Should Go Unanswered Act would direct the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to improve the Veterans Crisis Line (VCL) by mandating the following:
- Development of a quality assurance document to improve the responsiveness and performance of the VCL including clear measurable objectives and deadlines to meet objectives; and
- Requirement that the VA to develop a plan ensuring every phone call text message email and other communication to the VCL and its backup centers are answered by a live person.
