Cornyn, Cruz Applaud Confirmation of Nicholas Ganjei for U.S. District Court in Houston


The Senate voted to confirm President Trump’s nomination of Nicholas Ganjei to be a U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of Texas.

Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. –U.S. Senators John Cornyn (R-TX) and Ted Cruz (R-TX) released the following statements after the Senate voted to confirm President Trump’s nomination of Nicholas Ganjei to be a U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of Texas – Houston Division:

“Texas deserves highly qualified individuals who will uphold our nation’s principles in the courtroom, and Nick is exactly that,” said Sen. Cornyn“I was proud to vote to confirm Nick as a District Judge for the Southern District of Texas in Houston.”

“Congratulations to Nicholas Ganjei, my former Chief Counsel and now the new District Judge for the Southern District of Texas,” said Sen. Cruz“Nick has been on the front lines of federal law enforcement as the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Texas and as my Chief Counsel, he oversaw vital initiatives on criminal justice, border security, judicial nominations, antitrust issues, intellectual property, and religious liberty. I am confident he will continue his tireless work in service of the American people and in faithful adherence to the Constitution.”

The Senators recommended Nicholas Ganjei to President Trump following an extensive review and interview process of the candidate pool by the bipartisan Federal Judicial Evaluation Committee (FJEC). Sen. Cornyn and Sen. Cruz established the FJEC, a bipartisan panel of leading attorneys in Texas, to help identify the most qualified candidates to fill judicial vacancies. The panel reviewed applications, interviewed candidates, and made recommendations to the Senators, who interviewed individuals before making their recommendations to the President.
