Its hard to take it seriously when every single one of our colleagues in the Senate Judiciary Committee on the Democratic side have announced their opposition to this nominee even before todays hearing.
Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C.
I would suggest that if this were a court of law that virtually every member on the other side of the aisle would be held in contempt of court argued Senator John Cornyn
during opening statements at this mornings Senate Judiciary Committee
hearing on President Donald Trumps nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the United State Supreme Court.
I havent been in as many Supreme Court Nominee hearings as some of my colleagues but this is the first confirmation hearing for a Supreme Court Justice Ive seen basically according to mob rule said the Texas Senator
and Senate Judiciary Committee Member
We have rules in the Senate we have norms for decorum
. Everybody as you pointed out Mr. Chairman is going to get a chance to have their say. Youve given everybody a chance to ask questions for up to 50 minutes youve given them a chance to make an opening statement.
Any one of our (Democrat) colleagues can step out here (into the hallway) and talk to the press and make whatever comments they want and tell the world how they feel about this.
But the fact is its hard to take it seriously when every single one of our colleagues in the Senate Judiciary Committee on the Democratic side have announced their opposition to this nominee even before todays hearing said Cornyn
Theres nothing fair about that and we would just ask for an opportunity for the American people to be able to be able to listen to this nominee answer the questions that we have.
This whole process is supposed to be a civil one where we get to ask questions and we get to hear answers.
I would just suggest that we get on with the hearing said Cornyn.
