Cornyn on Conservative Record, Greenland, and President Trump’s Peacemaking Efforts in Iran and Venezuela

"He (the President) has multiple options, and only he knows which of those options he will choose, but I'm glad to see him standing up for [Iranian] protestors."

Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Fox News Sunday, U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) joined Shannon Bream to discuss the latest in Iran, Greenland, and Venezuela as President Trump puts American interests first around the world and highlighted his conservative voting record. Excerpts of Sen. Cornyn’s remarks are below, and video can be found here.

On President Trump’s Pressure Campaign Against Iran:
“Iran has been at war with the West and has American blood on its hands in Iraq and, of course, has threatened to wipe Israel off the map, and developed a nuclear weapons program that thankfully President Trump had the courage and decisiveness to step in and set back months, if not years.”

“The sanctions regime that the President has put into place has weakened the economy, exerting maximum pressure on the regime. But he has multiple options, and only he knows which of those options he will choose, but I’m glad to see him standing up for these protestors.”

On a Potential Deal with Greenland:
“The President rightly understands that this is a strategically important piece of real estate.”

“The President is the consummate dealmaker, and I think he is looking for a deal.”

“I’m glad that Secretary Rubio and the Vice President have been engaging the Danes, because this is something we should be able to do in the best interest of both countries.”

On New Leadership in Venezuela:
“The way that the United States military acted in support of this law enforcement action, which is what it was, to arrest Nicolás Maduro was nothing short of magnificent.”

“The good news is the President has multiple levers to use with Delcy Rodríguez, and I know that Secretary Rubio, and more recently the CIA Director, were down there talking to her. This is going to be a multi-year transition, but I think, in the end, it will be a much better outcome for the people of Venezuela, and it will result in them not being the source of drugs that come into the United States and cause untold human misery.”

On His Conservative Record:
“My voting record is consistently in support of the President’s policies. I helped confirm three new members of the U.S. Supreme Court, we passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act back in 2017, and more recently helped to get the Working Families Tax Cuts Act. I’ve been supportive of President Trump, I have a good relationship with him.”
