President Trump knows how to make a deal, and I'm confident that under his leadership we'll find a way, unless the Democrats continue to move the goalpost.
Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday on the floor, U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) discussed Democrats’ continued obstruction and refusal to fund and re-open the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), leaving the American people to suffer and President Trump with no choice but to deploy U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to airports across the country to help streamline security screening processes. Sen. Cornyn has voted five times to reopen DHS, which includes the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Excerpts of Sen. Cornyn’s remarks are below, and video can be found here.
“It is beyond shameful that Senate Democrats have continued to keep the Department of Homeland Security unfunded and shutdown.”
“We know that essential operations of ICE, or Immigration and Customs Enforcement – like the Homeland Security Investigations, which is an important office that conducts operations to prevent human trafficking – are hamstrung, and we know TSA workers are continuing to work without pay.”
“President Trump, left with no other alternative, has asked ICE to assist and help out at the airports, and some Democrats are getting downright hysterical.”
“Some have even [been] saying that the traveling American public is in danger when these professional law enforcement officers are working to help assist people to move through these security checkpoints at our airports.”
“The truth is, as we’ve seen in videos and social media, ICE agents are handing out water bottles to travelers and helping keep the flow of traffic organized and hopefully expedited.”
“I’m hopeful that we are moving closer to a deal which will help these good men and women that work at the Department of Homeland Security [receive] a paycheck. President Trump knows how to make a deal, and I’m confident that under his leadership we’ll find a way, unless the Democrats continue to move the goalpost, which the Minority Leader continues to try to do.”
“These antics are not a way to govern.”
