“I was proud to cast my vote in favor of the historic SAVE America Act."
Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) released the following statement after voting in favor of the motion to proceed to the SAVE America Act, kicking off debate on landmark legislation that would secure America’s elections by requiring individuals to present proof of citizenship when registering to vote as well as photo identification before voting in a federal election, and reiterated his support for the talking filibuster and larger reforms to Senate rules that may be needed to ensure the bill passes the Senate and is signed into law by President Trump as soon as possible:
“I was proud to cast my vote in favor of the historic SAVE America Act, and I support using the talking filibuster and making any changes necessary to the Senate rules to get it passed and signed into law by President Trump as soon as possible,” said Sen. Cornyn.
“I’m glad the Senate will debate this bill and hold Democrats’ feet to the fire to see who is willing to go on the record opposing voter ID and proof of citizenship to vote – things that an overwhelming majority of Texans and Americans support. Let’s get it done.”
