Coronavirus Update: Stimulus Check Status and Important Notice for Veterans

"This week, the IRS announced significant improvements to the "Get My Payment" tool on their website which allows taxpayers to update their direct deposit information and see when they can expect to receive their stimulus check."

Congressman John Carter

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – Last month, Congress' CARES Act was signed into law, which provides Economic Impact Payments to nearly 90 percent of Americans. While the Federal government has distributed more than 80 million stimulus checks through direct deposit or the mail, over the past several weeks many of you have reached out to my office for information on the program.

Getting Your Stimulus Check
This week, the IRS announced significant improvements to the "Get My Payment" tool on their website. The feature allows taxpayers to update their direct deposit information and see when they can expect to receive their stimulus check.
  • If you need to track the status of your payment, this feature will show you the scheduled delivery date by direct deposit or mail and the last four digits of the bank account being used if the IRS has direct deposit information. You will need to enter basic information including:
    • Social Security number
    • Date of birth
    • Mailing address used on your tax return
  • If you need to add your bank account information, you will also need to provide the following additional information:
    • Adjusted Gross Income from your most recent tax return submitted, either 2019 or 2018
    • The refund or amount owed from your latest filed tax return
    • Bank account type, account and routing numbers
Important Notice for SSI and VA Beneficiaries
If you are a Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Veterans Affairs (VA) beneficiary who did not file a tax return in 2018 or 2019 and have qualified dependent children under the age of 17, please visit the IRS non-filer tool online by Tuesday, May 5 to receive the additional $500 payment for each child.

If you are a beneficiary who didn't file a tax return in the previous two years, no action is needed to receive your stimulus payment; however, if you have a qualifying child and didn’t file a 2018 or 2019 tax return, you MUST register to have $500 per eligible child added automatically to your soon-to-be-received Economic Impact Payment.

Individuals who fail to register before May 5 will have to wait until next year when they file their 2020 tax return to receive their $500 per child payment. Please visit the IRS website and use their online system here.
