Senate Makes It Abundantly Clear: It Will Reject Biden's Effort to Dismantle Terrorism Sanctions on Iran, Passes Cruz's Effort 86-12

Bipartisan vote happens after Cruz Speech: “If you support terrorism sanctions on the IRGC you should vote yes. If you want to lift those sanctions you should vote no.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Texas Insider Report) — By a bi-partisan vote of 86-12, the U.S. Senate overwhelmingly approved a motion by Senator Ted Cruz which stated that terrorism sanctions on Iran – and specifically on the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) – were necessary to check cooperation between Iran and China.

In his speech that opened the vote, Cruz said:

“The Biden administration has refused to enforce oil sanctions against Iran, allowing Iran to sell more than a million barrels of oil a day, primarily to China.

"At the same time, the Biden administration is negotiating to lift terrorism sanctions on the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the Central Bank of Iran… If you support terrorism sanctions on the IRGC you should vote yes. And if you want to lift those sanctions you should vote no.”

After the vote, Sen. Cruz said:

“Today’s vote represents an overwhelming and bipartisan rebuke of the administration’s policies that are ignoring and weakening sanctions against Iran. The Senate made it absolutely clear that it will reject any attempt to dismantle terrorism sanctions on the CBI and the IRGC.”
