Cruz: Remembering Senator Lindsey Graham

The Senate ought to take up his Russia sanctions bill, rename it the Lindsey Graham Russia Accountability Act, and pass it overwhelmingly.

By Sen. Ted Cruz

Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. – Lindsey was a fearless patriot, a devoted public servant, and one of the fiercest advocates for America’s national security. He loved this country deeply, and he dedicated his life to defending it. For years, I had the privilege of serving alongside Lindsey in the Senate. We fought shoulder to shoulder for conservative judges, stood together with our allies, and never wavered in confronting America’s adversaries.

Heidi’s and my prayers are with his family, his devoted staff, and the people of South Carolina. His friendship, his sparkling humor, and his unwavering commitment to our nation will be deeply missed. May God grant him eternal rest.

Senator Graham was one of the most formidable foes America’s enemies faced in the United States Senate. The Senate ought to take up his Russia sanctions bill, rename it the Lindsey Graham Russia Accountability Act, and pass it overwhelmingly.

He was unapologetic and uncompromising in countering the threat the Russian regime poses to American national security and the safety of the American people. I worked alongside my friend for years to counter those malign activities, including through sanctions legislation aimed at depriving Putin’s war machine of the resources it needs to threaten America and our allies.

This bipartisan legislation honors Senator Graham’s legacy while advancing the badly needed policies for which he tirelessly advocated. I urge my colleagues to pass it without delay.

Senate Democrats spent four years cheering on the weaponization of the Justice Department. Under Joe Biden, we saw nearly 200 subpoenas, more than 400 Republican-aligned targets, and the phone records of Republican senators secretly seized.

After four years of silence, it is rich for Senate Democrats to now pretend they care about politicized justice.

We need to pass the Save America Act now. As an original co-sponsor, I have been advocating and urging my colleagues to force the Democrats to hold a talking filibuster so they have to stand up in person if they want to delay passage of a bill.

As midterm elections approach, it’s time we make our election system more secure.

Praying for Flood Victims in Texas

My team and I continue to monitor the storms and flooding affecting communities across Texas. I surveyed the damage from the recent flooding with Texas Game Wardens and Texas DPS. I met with local officials in both Uvalde County and Kerr County, first responders, and members of the Texas National Guard leading the response.

Seeing the damage in Uvalde County and Kerr County up close is surreal. After everything this community endured last year, it is heartbreaking to see Texans facing this again.

It is critically important that Texans remain vigilant and heed warnings from local officials as Texas Game Wardens and Texas Department of Public Safety continue working across affected communities during ongoing recovery efforts.

You can stay up to date by visiting the websites of the Texas Division of Emergency Management and the National Weather Service to keep you and your loved ones safe.

Senator Ted Cruz was elected as the 34th U.S. Senator from Texas in 2012, and currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Commerce, Science & Transportation Committee, a position that gives him the opportunity to shape a far-reaching range of issues that impact the landscape of daily life. He is also a member of the Senate's Committee on Foreign Relations, the Committee on the Judiciary, and the Committee on Rules & Administration.
