Cruz: The Protect College Sports Act

Continuity of Military Parents' Academic Schooling and State Standards (COMPASS) Act

Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last week, my bill, the Protect College Sports Act, passed out of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation with overwhelming bipartisan support, sending the legislation to the Senate for full consideration.

College athletes should be compensated fairly for their name, image, and likeness. But college sports need basic rules. We can protect NIL, stop the chaos, and make sure student-athletes are actually getting an education. I look forward to working with my Senate colleagues to pass the Protect College Sports Act into law.

The “Spirit of Aggieland”
The B-52 crash near Edwards Air Force Base that claimed the lives of eight American servicemembers is a tragic loss. The aircraft, known as the “Spirit of Aggieland,” was familiar to generations of Aggies through flyovers above Kyle Field and its longstanding ties to Texas A&M.

We are grateful for the service and sacrifice of these brave Americans, who dedicated their lives to defending our nation. Heidi and I are praying for the families of those lost and all who are grieving this tragedy

Continuity of Military Parents' Academic Schooling and State Standards (COMPASS) Act
Military families homeschool their children at roughly twice the rate of civilian families. But conflicting state homeschooling laws undermine military readiness, family resilience, and retention by forcing servicemembers and their spouses to navigate different requirements each time the Department of War relocates them.

That is why I introduced the Continuity of Military Parents' Academic Schooling and State Standards (COMPASS) Act this week. This bill allows military families to continue following the homeschooling laws of the servicemember’s legal home state during Permanent Change of Station moves, rather than immediately shifting to the laws of the new duty station state. I am proud to be leading this legislation to provide military homeschool families with the stability and flexibility they deserve.
