Recognized for helping veterans during 16 years of government service to Texas
Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas HOUSTON Texas Today The Honorable David H. Dewhurst received a Lifetime Achievement award from Helping a Hero at their 2016 volunteer appreciation luncheon. The award is given to individuals who have helped assist the brave men and women injured in the war on terror as they transition back into their communities. The organization is specifically known for providing specially modified homes to combat-injured veterans.
During his tenure as Lieutenant Governor Dewhurst worked tirelessly to increase funding for Texas veterans and led the effort to eliminate property taxes for 100 disabled veterans.
Im humbled and honored to receive this award from my fellow veterans and this outstanding organization. Our brave men and women put themselves in harms way across the world every day and sadly many of them come home with permanent scars and disabilities. said Dewhurst. We cannot thank them enough for their service to our country. I remain committed to doing everything I can to ensure all of our veterans have the resources and support they need.

About Helping a Hero
Helping a Hero is a 501(c)(3) non profit non-partisan organization founded in 2006 that provides support for military personnel severely injured in the war on terror. Their principal activity is to provide specially adapted homes for qualifying service members through partnerships made with the builders developers communities and the veteran. Helping a Hero strives to engage the community in providing services and resources for our wounded heroes and their families. Additionally Helping a Hero provides additional support programs such as marriage retreats caregiver retreats recreational activities emotional support and financial support.
