The Democratic Party has raised approximatly $55 million this year and sits $3.2 million in debt. The DNC also has $5 million cash on hand.
By comparison the RNC raised about $9.2 million in October bringing its total to $113 million so far this year and has $42.5 million cash on hand according to the partys monthly finance report.
Losing the White House often deals a blow to fundraising but the DNCs continued fundraising woes have prompted some frustration among Democrats less than a year into new DNC Chairman Thomas Perezs tenure. The DNC under new chairman Perez (left) has remained a source of friction with Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders backers including Our Revolution the political organization that grew out of Sanderss 2016 campaign remaining critical of its role. The partys wounds were reopened during the fundraising period when Donna Brazile who took over as the interim chairwoman of the DNC from the partys 2016 Convention through Perezs election in February wrote a book detailing how the party leaders tipped the scales in Hillary Clintons favor in 2016. Further compounding the Democrats fundraising problems the DNC recently fired its finance director Emily Mellencamp Smith whose hiring was just announced in June as part of new chairman Perezs efforts to rebuild the party.
