What kind of person invites a guest to "come to our house," and then subjects them to insult?
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Texas Insider Report) — Democrat lawmakers – facing continued and growing pressure from their far-left Socialist-Democrat base – have announced that their latest plan to contrast themselves with Republicans and President Donald Trump will be to hold a counter-rally during President Trump's "State of the Union" address to the Nation this coming Tuesday, Feb. 24th. The "counter-rally" will be hosted by the liberal-left mobilization group MoveOn.org, along with progressive media company Meidas Touch, and other "coalition" partners.
Whether making a mockery of the annual State of the Union speech, turning it into a campaign rally to spew hatred and division – and likely degrading a moment when Congressional leaders literally "invite" the President to speak to them, which traditionally has been used to bring the country together – will appeal to millions of mainstream Americans, is a far different question. So far over two dozen Democrat officeholders from the House & Senate now say they will – in some way, shape, or form – boycott the annual speech and participate in what is being referred to as "counter-programming" rather than listen to Mr. Trump's assessment of the "State of the Union."
During last year's address, Cong. Al Green (D-TX) stood and heckled President Trump during the speech – raising his walking cane toward Trump from his seat in the middle of the House Chamber, and shaking it in the president's direction.
After Green refused repeated requests to take his seat and maintain decorum, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) was forced to order the chamber's Sergeant-at-Arms to “restore order” by removing Green from the chamber. Several other Democrats made spectacle of themselves by walking out mid-speech, and others frequently held up signs that read “Save Medicaid” and “False” as Trump spoke.
The House later censured the Texas Democrat for his behavior in rare vote on the House Floor.
While many Democrats say they plan to simply skip Tuesday Night's speech, many others have said they will attend a counter-rally dubbed the “People’s State of the Union” at 8:30 p.m. on the National Mall just in front of the Capitol in which President Trump will be speaking to the nation.
According to a press release issued by the counter-rally's organizers, speakers at the event include:- Senators Ed Markey (D-Mass.), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Chris Murphy (D-CT), Tina Smith (D-MN) and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), as well as
- House Members Yassamin Ansari (D-AZ), Becca Balint (D-VT), Greg Casar (D-TX), Veronica Escobar (D-TX), Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), Delia Ramirez (D-IL) and Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-N.J.).
“Democrats have no obligation to reward him with an audience as he lies,” said Democrat Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut in a statement.
“These aren’t normal times, and showing up for this speech puts a veneer of legitimacy on the corruption and lawlessness that has defined his second term,” he added – foreshadowing ahead of time the talking points Democrats will likely be repeating between now and the November Election.
Maryland Senator Van Hollen wrote on X earlier this week: “I won’t be there. Trump is marching America towards fascism... This cannot be business as usual.”

Still other Democrats – including Reps. Eric Swalwell (Calif.), Jason Crow (Colo.), Seth Moulton (Mass.), Dan Goldman (N.Y.) and Sen. Ron Wyden (Ore.) – are planning a different counter-event dubbed the “State of the Swamp” at the National Press Club the same night.
While the gathering has been framed as a “boycott” of Trump’s speech, some lawmakers are considering attending the event for a brief period, and then attending the State of the Union afterwards.
Cong. Crow’s office has indicated that the congressman will be attending both events, while Representative Eugene Vindman’s (D-VA) informed Capitol Hill media he will send a video for the “State of the Swamp” event, but will be attending the State of the Union address.According to news reports, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) advised his Democrat House members in a closed-door meeting last week that they should either attend the State of the Union in “silent defiance,” or skip the event altogether.
Jeffries told reporters on Tuesday that it’s his “present intention” to attend the State of the Union next week.
It's a message his fellow Democrats either don't appreciate, or clearly disagree with.“We’re not going to his house, he’s coming to our house, and it’s the people’s house,” Jeffries said, adding, “Having grown up where I grew up, you never let anyone run you off your block.”
It also begs the question, what kind of person would invite a guest to "come to our house," and then treat them in such a manner.
