Emergency Support Needed in South Texas Flood Zones

Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley is accepting direct donations to help By Feeding Texas width=200Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas  On Thursday Governor Greg Abbot declared a state of emergency for six South Texas counties (Aransas Cameron Hidalgo Nueces San Patricio and Willacy) impacted by severe flooding caused by record rainfall. Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley is accepting direct donations to help with their response efforts to feed thousands of Valley residents during the flooding. So far Feeding Texas network of food banks has responded by offering 10 truckloads of product to Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley which has distributed 38208 pounds of food and bottled water to 3842  people in need. While the flood waters are slowly receding in affected areas standing water and the threat of additional rain hinder recovery efforts for the substantial damage to criticalinfrastructure. Because the state and local governments in the affected areas do not have the capacity to sufficiently respond to this major disaster we urge President Trump to make a declaration of disaster in order to ensure that the impacted counties can access important federal assistance and resources to recover. Once President Trump issues this declaration we urge HHSC to immediately request D-SNAP (Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance) so South Texas families experiencing and recovering from disaster dont go hungry.
