President Trump continues working to strengthen America’s economic position – both at Home & Abroad
By Cong. Pete Sessions
Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. – A few days ago the House Financial Services Committee held a subcommittee hearing with the Subcommittee on National Security, Illicit Finance & International Financial Institutions In this hearing, I emphasized the urgent need to improve how we address and prevent financial fraud, especially when it comes to restitution and recovery for victims. I spoke about the importance of strengthening our reporting tools to better track fraudulent activity and help law enforcement take faster action. Investment scams, including romance schemes and phishing attacks, are on the rise, costing Americans $5.7 billion in 2024 alone, according to the FTC.

Office of the United States Trade Representative
On Monday, I had the privilege of hosting Larry Calhoun from the Office of the United States Trade Representative for a conversation with small business stakeholders from TX-17. This timely discussion came ahead of the announcement of reciprocal tariffs and provided a valuable opportunity for local businesses to hear directly from USTR and gain insight into what’s ahead.

The Texas State University System
It was a pleasure to welcome Chancellor Brian McCall of the Texas State University System and President Alisa White of Sam Houston State University to my office on Wednesday. We had a productive conversation about SHSU’s latest initiatives, ongoing programs, and the university’s continued impact on students and the broader East Texas community.
The Texas State University System includes seven member institutions across the state, providing a wide variety of higher education opportunities for Texans.
Sam Houston State is a pillar of academic excellence with a strong commitment to shaping the next generation of leaders, educators, and professionals. I’m proud to support outstanding institutions like SHSU that are driving opportunity and growth across East Texas.
It’s an honor to represent TX-17, and I remain committed to advocating for our community and ensuring your voices are heard in Washington.
