By State Rep. Dan Flynn
Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Its the start of the new year and weve hit the ground running. On January 8th 2019 the members of the Texas state legislature were sworn in for the 86th Legislative Session. The legislature has much work to do and our office is already in full swing.
This session I was honored to be appointed as Chairman of the House Committee of Defense & Veterans Affairs. After serving a combined total of 57 years in the Army National Guard and Texas State Guard I am privileged to work for a cause so near and dear.
Additionally I will serve as a member of the Pensions Committee and the House Administration Committee.
This month also included the first meeting of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). Since 1975 NCSL has gathered state legislators from across the United States to ensure a strong unified voice for states nationally and to promote policy innovation and cooperation across state legislatures.
At the meeting it was my honor to serve on the NCSL Executive Committee which is responsible for governing the affairs of the conference and its corresponding committees.
Additionally I was appointed to the Subcommittee on Audit & Compliance and the Task Force on International Relations. NCSL is an important organization for the health of our state legislatures including that of Texas and as a state representative I am proud to share this with you.
Supporting our office this session is my outstanding staff - Chief of Staff David Erinakes Defense & Veterans Affairs Committee Director Amy Rister and Legislative Director Mary Ameringer. Together my team and I are excited to continue working diligently for the constituents of House District Two and our great state during the 86th Legislature.
Stay tuned for another Flynn Report next week with more updates on the state of the 86th Legislature.
It remains my pleasure and honor to represent all the people of Texas House District 2.
