FLYNN: The Legislative Session Gets Busy

Texas State Representative Dan Flynn

Defense and Veterans Affairs Activities
During our committee hearings for Defense and Veterans Affairs we have heard 32 bills so far. Of those 32 we have voted out 10 great bills that have the potential to greatly impact Texas Veterans in a positive way.

From dedicating local spots to late soldiers to expanding mental health resources for veterans with PTSD we hope to send a message that our committee is deeply concerned with improving the lives of veterans across the state as well as acknowledging the sacrifices that have been made for our freedom. I am privileged to live in this great state (and nation) that is free because of our service men and women. It is an honor to serve in a position where I can make real change to benefit our state and the lives of Texans.

My fellow members of the Defense and Veterans Affairs committee and myself will continue to promote beneficial legislation for the livelihood of our great Texans.

Bills Bills Bills
Things are really getting moving this session as we enter April. Of my 63 bills 41 are regular bills and 22 are resolutions recognizing the people of House District 2. Of my 41 bills 10 have already been laid out in committee and a major piece of legislation that I have authored called a Sunset Bill to make changes to the Texas Military Department that will be heard before the entire House on Thursday.

Our school finance bill will be heard on the House Floor tomorrow. I have also had several bills sent to the Calendars Committee that are waiting to be heard on the House Floor. And I have Joint-Authored 13 bills! I keep busy here at the Capitol so that I can best serve the people of District 2.

National Vietnam War Veterans Day
In honor of March 29th National Vietnam War Veterans Day I spoke at the 5th anniversary of the Vietnam Memorial on the capitol grounds. It was an honor to speak and recognize the many many brave servicemen who fought in this war.

It is my duty as an American to recognize the brave sacrifices that many made some gave their lives and to support our current servicemen and women. I pray that the troops past and present and future will know how supported and appreciative our entire country is for their bravery.
