Gavin Newsom Signs the "Shut Up Nick Shirley Act"

For the Left desperately seeking a common sense presidential candidate, the California governor has just announced he's not your man.

Stephen Moore: Unleash Prosperity Hotline – Normal Americans who are horrified by the systemic corruption, fraud and criminal theft from federal welfare and grant programs, believe that Nick Shirley is a hero for exposing these scams. They cost taxpayers hundreds of billions a year and perhaps topping out annually at more than $1 trillion. It's the greatest train robbery in history.  

It's why next month we are awarding Mr. Shirley our Evans and Novak award for outstanding investigative journalism for his videos outing the criminal syndicates.

But now we are learning the Democrats - and even the supposed watchdog media - are in on the fraud racket. We've heard nary a peep of opposition from the mainstream media against the Shut Up Nick Shirley Act.

Where are the Woodward and Bernsteins decrying this assault on investigative journalism?

As we mentioned last week, the California legislature passed the law to make these fraud discovery stings ILLEGAL. Over the weekend we got the news that Gavin Newsom signed it into law - this is an affront to First Amendment rights of free speech and a free press. As we've noted, there are already laws on the books to protect businesses from media harassment. But if you're taking federal grant money, your activities and books should be open to the public. If you want your operations to be secret, don’t take taxpayer money.

What’s doubly troubling about Newsom’s actions is that California is ground zero for welfare fraud.
