Dr. Dawn Buckingham, State Senator
"Texans are resilient people and I have no doubt that we will emerge victorious against this virus."
Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – As we continue to navigate our way through these unprecedented times due to COVID-19, I want to touch base with you about an issue that is on everyone’s mind: getting back to work.
Small businesses are the backbone of our state and national economies and currently they are hurting more than ever. We have seen record unemployment numbers across the state as a result of this invisible enemy’s onslaught. Recently, Governor Greg Abbott announced the phased re-opening of Texas beginning with all licensed health care professionals, limited capacity restaurants, hair salons, museums, malls, and more allowed to open to the public. You can read more about that here.
Simply put, it is time to get back to work. As a physician it is vital to recognize the importance of getting Texans back to work while doing so in a safe manner for everyone involved and I believe we are on the right track to do just that. As businesses begin to reopen, I urge everyone to support your local restaurants and Mom and Pop shops whenever possible. Our local eateries and businesses have always been there for us and our communities, and now it is time for us to be there for them. Texans are resilient people and I have no doubt that we will emerge victorious against this virus.
