While Giving Pause to Honor All Who Made the Ultimate Sacrifice, Attend One of These Memorial Day Events

It’s an incredible honor to be trusted as the stewards of these hallowed grounds and to fulfil our duty to continuously honor Veterans and their families for their service and sacrifices.

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – To date, more than 25,000 Texas Veterans have been laid to rest between our four Texas State Veterans Cemeteries. Each of these sacred burial plots is a permanent shrine to the men and women who knowingly put aside their personal wellbeing so that they could defend our nation against our common enemies.

It’s an incredible honor to be trusted as the stewards of these hallowed grounds, and to fulfil our duty to continuously honor Veterans and their families for their service and sacrifices. This responsibility is one that is not taken lightly.

At the Veterans Land Board (VLB,) we work hard every day to ensure Texas Veterans receive the dignified and well-deserved benefits they earned during their time in service. Memorial Day is an important opportunity to share our commitment to this cause as we take part in various ceremonies to honor the Veterans who have passed on before us.

We are proud to partner with local Veterans groups in nearby communities as we host various events to honor the servicemembers who have made our cemeteries their final resting place.

This year, I encourage every Texan who can attend one of our Memorial Day events to do so. This weekend, please join me in remembering their ultimate sacrifices.

For a list of events at our Abilene, Corpus Christi, Killeen, and Mission cemeteries, please visit our blog page here.

Since the founding of our nation, more than 650,000 sons, daughters, parents, and siblings have paid the ultimate price so that we may live more freely today.

Let us also pray for the men and women who lost their brothers and sisters in arms in combat, and for closure to the families of the servicemembers lost in battle who have yet to be recovered.

This Memorial Day, we remember every servicemember who has given their life on behalf of our great nation. For those who continue to serve, we pray for your continued safety.

Have a safe and reflective Memorial Day weekend from all of us at the VLB.

God Bless Texas!
