Gov. Greg Abbott Appoints Rep. Ron Simmons To Education Commission Of The States

Governor Abbott Appoints Four New Members to National Compact Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Governor Greg Abbott today announced his appointment of Representative Ron Simmons (R-Carrollton) to the Education Commission of the States along with three other appointees. The Governor appoints the Texas delegation of the national compact commission led by Commissioner of Texas Education Agency Mike Morath and Commissioner of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Raymund Paredes. Representative Simmons was appointed today along with Senator Larry Taylor (R-Friendswood) Representative Dwayne Bohac (R-Houston) and John Colyandro representing the Governor. They will serve with current members Senator Royce West (D-Dallas) Commissioner Morath and Commissioner Paredes.

I am honored to have been appointed to this commission by Governor Abbott Simmons said. He continued As the son of public school teachers I have always championed the importance of education. I look forward to working with fellow members across our country to make the education experience in Texas the best in the nation.

The Education Commission of the States was formally organized in 1967. The idea of a nationwide compact to improve education came about in 1965 with the late John Gardner president of the Carnegie Corporation and the late Terry Sanford former Governor of North Carolina. Sanford led the effort to secure approval from Congress and in all 50 states. The Commission seeks to improve education nationwide by sharing resources and expertise with education policy leaders in each state.  The term length for all members is at the pleasure of the Governor.
