Former legislator retools lobby practice to meet diverse perspectives & interests

Thats led me to retool my business expanding into government procurement and forming key strategic partnerships that provide clients a voice across the full political spectrum" said Hackney announcing the establishment of Hackney Government Affairs Group a full service Government Relations that will include services in the areas of government procurement and management of advocacy campaigns both in Austin and Washington D.C.
The new firm began operations on January 2 2019.

For the past 28 years Hackney has operated a private lobbying firm representing more than 100 clients that included such notables as Prudential Securities Freddie Mac Philips Electronics Enron Henry S. Miller and several oil and gas interests.
Hackney has brought together a group of seasoned government affairs veterans to establish strategic partnerships and a team capable of helping clients navigate the complex maize of legislative and regulatory obstacles necessary to achieve success.
John Pouland of HeLP/B2G will guide clients through the government procurement component using the HeLP/B2G (business-to-government) model and will assist with business development in the public sector. During the 1990s Pouland served as regional administrator of the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) and as executive director of the Texas General Services Commission (GSC) managing procurements fleets and facilities. He later directed public sector business development for Siemens and Philips in the U.S. before returning to Texas to open a private consulting business.
Robert Taylor founder of the Defense Consulting Group stands ready to assist Clients seeking advice or advocacy on issues relating to defense contracts procurement RDT&E and military installations. Based in Washington D.C. Taylor is a former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense who has worked under four Secretaries of Defense in the Pentagon most recently under Secretary Robert Gates as well as serving in the Defense Intelligence Agency and as an officer in the US Army. He is also a veteran of Capitol Hill working under several US Senators including Senator Don Nickles (R-OK) and as Legislative Director for Senator John Thune (R-SD).
Eric Woomer of Policy Solutions will team with Hackney in Austin bringing an experienced steady hand into play when lobbying for clients before the Texas Legislature. Woomer is well-known at the Texas Capitol having been a government affairs consultant for many years but also as a former chief of staff and legislative director for three state senators both Republicans and Democrats.
Hackney has a long background in state government. Born in Lufkin Texas he graduated from Texas A&M University in 1974 with a B.A. in political science. His first hands-on political experience came during his college years when he worked on campaigns for George H. W. Bush and the legendary Charlie Wilson who became his mentor.

In 1980 at age 28 Hackney won a seat in the Texas House where he served for eight years. He chaired the House Energy Committee was instrumental in creating the Texas Department of Commerce (now the Governors Economic Development Office) and paved the way for early voting periods and private prisons.
Now with the rebooting and expansion of his business Hackney looks forward to helping a variety of clients with diverse perspectives and interests to attain their business and policy goals.
